Using smartphones to read text
It is difficult for people who have low vision to go to supermarkets. The price stickers are tiny and very hard to read. Fortunately, there is a tool to make things easier. More and more people have smartphones. One way to use a smartphone to download a magnification app. There are many different ones that are highly rated. Another, and simpler, strategy is to use the camera on the phone. The patient/member can simply take a picture of a price label and then pinch their fingers apart on the image to magnify it. Granted, it makes it longer to go shopping but at least the low vision patient/member can go shopping independently.
Once someone has learned to master taking pictures and expanding images, s/he can use it to read all kinds of text from phone numbers to bills that come in the mail. The key is to learn how to use tools to increase independence.
