The Massachusetts Equipment Distribution Program

The Massachusetts Equipment Distribution Program (MassEDP) provides adaptive telephones. Depending on income level, these telephones may come for free or at reduced cost. Households with incomes less than $50,000 per year are eligible for one free phone. MassEDP offers seven different models of telephones. Some have programmable buttons that can call specific people or emergency services. Many of them have amplification to help people who are also hearing impaired. The program offers free installation. Technicians will come to someone's home to set up the program. Applicants have to have been declared legally blind to be eligible for the program. Their doctors have to sign the applications.

Many low vision patients experience a great deal of frustration when making phone calls. Phone numbers are misdialed, sometimes many times. This really is a great program which enables low vision patients to make calls with more ease.
