Cutting food

Cutting food can really be both a functional and safety challenge for low vision patients. Adding lighting to kitchen -counters with a moveable desk lamp makes it easier to see what is being cut. We also suggest using a cutting board that contrasts with the food you are chopping. There is one that is black on one side and white on the other ($25). Cut resistant gloves makes it less likely to cut yourself if the knife were to slip ($16). A vegetable holder is also very helpful. It is a simple device that has metal teeth to keep the item to be cut steady while cutting between the teeth ($5).

We believe that the important to enable our patients to do as much as possible while staying safe.
