Currency reader for people who have low vision

The U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing has unveiled a new program that gives people who have low vision electronic devices that can read and announce the dollar value of paper currency, the iBill. The device is easy to use and best of all- FREE.

The only criterion is that the person has to be considered legally blind or visually impaired. An application has to get submitted to the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Local Talking Book Libraries, like the Perkins School for the Blind Library, are happy to help people submit applications. We at Visions of Independence help people who have low vision through the entire process.

This is wonderful new resource for people who are visually impaired. The currency reader can significantly increase the ability of low vision patients to purchase items in the community and provides them with more dignity.
